DYNAMIC KAJUKENBO BY BARRON SHEPHERD

Coach Barron’s Kaju Hawk Tomahawk Fighting method based on his Kajukenbo techniques showcases the application of Universal Motion. No one style/system is the end all to self-defense or fighting. We all know the Bruce Lee adage of “A punch was just a punch”, but those systems that utilize Universal Motion will always have an edge over those that don’t. “Dynamic Kajukenbo” is a worthwhile addition to ANY Martial Art library but is a MUST have addition to those that prefer the Combative world. Enjoy!   – Rick Brumby 6th Black American Kenpo (Paul Mills)

If Kajukenbo is one thing it is badass, it always has been. What could be more badass than to combine it’s techniques with a tomahawk.

Since Kajukenbo’s inception a lot of techniques from various fighting styles were and still are being incorporated into it. An eclectic fighting style Kajukenbo is constantly growing adding aspects of other martial arts styles to its curriculum and ever evolving. This generally means developing new skillsets and introducing those skills into the system of Kajukenbo and its practitioners.

There probably isn’t another weapon today that captures the warrior ethos and imagination outside of the Samurai sword than the tomahawk. The versatility and effectiveness of the tomahawk make it a valuable addition to the arsenal of kajukenbo. When it comes to fighting, the tomahawk is a light weight, versatile and incredibly fast weapon that can wreak absolute havoc, blunt force trauma, and destruction.

The Kaju-Hawk Tomahawk fighting system is distinctive because Kajukenbo serves as its foundation. The system repurposes Kajukenbo’s empty-hand strikes, combinations, and self-defense techniques for tomahawk use. The tomahawk is an extension of the hand, thereby a natural extension of the empty hand techniques of Kajukenbo, the two could not be more suited for one another. Kajukenbo emphasizes lightning fast rapid-fire techniques to disable an attacker in seconds.

And besides using Kajukenbo techniques with a tomahawk…. just equals total badassery,

1.) The attacker is standing right side forward and has his hands up like a boxer. The defender is also right side forward in his fighting posture. Tomahawk is held in the right lead hand. 2.) The attacker throws a right lead straight punch, parry the punch to the inside with your left hand and move your head offline slightly to the left. 3.) Follow up with an immediate right-hand outward parry as you push off your right foot and step offline with your left foot toward the ten o’clock position. Your left-hand chambers at your right shoulder.

4.) Pivot clockwise toward two o’clock and execute a left shovel punch to the body. 5.) (Pictured from the opposite side) Immediately after your left shovel punch to the body, pivot clockwise toward three o’clock and hook the opponent’s right wrist with the tomahawk. Pulling the attacker’s arm into you with the hook deliver an upward elbow strike to the opponent’s right arm just above the elbow. 6.) Release your hook and pivot counter clockwise toward ten o’clock and cut the side of the attacker’s torso (lowline) with a right forehand horizontal slash. The left hand chambers at the right shoulder.

7.) Follow through with the lowline cut 8.) Turn your right hand palm down and bend the knees dropping low, 9.) cut the opponent’s leg behind the knee.
